THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH

How do I convey what is in my heart today?

I am convinced, that unless you personally know Christ, you will most likely laugh or 'roll your eyes' in speculation or maybe 'pity' at my attempted description of the joy and fullness that I am experiencing today.

I wish there were words to describe the "blessing and fullness of the Holy Spirit" that can be experienced in knowing God through a relationship with Christ. Today, it is like all the greatest experiences in love and life are captured and compacted into each moment of this day. Without being too graphic, may I say that 'life in the Spirit' is like experiencing the best of any great romantic or 'love' experience. It is an intimacy that is better than ANY the flesh can experience. It is one's own spirit (or soul), connecting with the very Spirit of God!

If any of you have not experienced this fullness of the Spirit, or do not know the True God, Creator of the Universe, who loves and cares for YOU....please feel free to ask me about Him! I would be happy to share the Truth that I learned many years ago from a former "bar-room buddy" of mine who often spoke about Jesus as if he KNEW Him! My interest was peaked and that began the process of knowing Christ, surrendering to Him as my Savior AND Lord. (that's the VERY short version!)

I wish I had adequate words to describe for you what "Walking God's Way" is like. I think, perhaps God has designed this relationship with Him to be so awesome, that even words can not describe it! It MUST be experienced through FAITH alone! My prayer is that everyone who stumbles across this blog will today, quietly and with faith, (if even "as small as a mustard seed") call on the name of Jesus today; for salvation, rescue and restoration of their relationship with God.

"I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me." ~ Jesus Christ

Rain, rain go away! Or not.....

Greetings firends and fellow bloggers....

I woke this morning and heard MORE RAIN falling through the tree leaves and pines. Yesterday we had rain all day and many other days we've had rain in some form or another. The normal pattern has been rain in the form of a short-lived afternoon thunderstorm, but the last few days it's been rain ALL DAY! Now I happen to LOVE rainy days but when rain comes EVERY day for days on end, it begins to get old! The endless days of rain are beginning to 'cramp my style'!

I began to talk to God this morning and quickly I found myself 'complaining' about the rain. (whining a bit to God) It was only moments later that the Holy Spirit reminded me that it makes no matter what the weather is....if your plans for the day are to serve the Lord! His words were, "Who cares what the weather is...it's just another element in your life today to deal with today".

WOW...that set me straight pretty quickly! I had to consider just what 'my plans' were for the day that would be hindered with a little more rain. Was I preparing to begin the day with a heart of service? Was I prepared and willing to SERVE Christ NO MATTER the circumstance? I realized, that if my purpose in life is truly ONLY to follow Christ and perform the work He lays before me today, then the weather, the situation, the location, the person or requirement should not matter a bit!

TODAY I must be prepared and willing to:

Share the Truth and the Hope found in the Gospel

Encourage Others

Care for the Needs of Others

Teach and Train Others

Worship and Praise God in All Things

NO MATTER the situation...and even in the RAIN!

FREE GIVEAWAY!!!

Today I visited the Voice of the Martyrs web site http://www.persecution.com/ and found a very interesting idea and a wonderful way to support our brothers and sisters who are persecuted in China. Following is a portion of the information promoting this excellent prayer plan.

The eyes of the world will soon be on the Olympics. But the eyes of God remain on His children and especially those who suffer for their faith. Despite what you may hear in the news, Chinese Christians who refuse to register with the government controlled church are being persecuted. Many have undergone horrific suffering. Recently a prominent representative of a group of house churches in China asked Christians throughout the free world to pray for China during the Olympics. The Voice of the Martyrs, in partnership with China Aid Associates, has accepted that call and has produced the Olympic Prayer Band. We would like to invite you to request one to wear during the Olympics. Similar prayer bands will also be distributed to house church Christians in China and they will be praying for you as well.

I have purchased some of these prayer bands and am offering them to the first TWENTY-FOUR (24) bloggers who will commit to wearing and praying! All you have to do is simply add a comment to this blog post (or to any of my following blog posts) and I will make sure you receive your prayer band! Of course, you will need to email me your mailing address or include it in the post. I will then ship your prayer band FREE if you are one of the first 24 people who request a band.
PLEASE... only request ONE band and please don't request a prayer band if you don't intend to make a serious effort to lift up the persecuted Christians and unchurced people in China throughout the days of the coming Olympics.

Honestly, I'm not even sure of the dates for the Olympics, as I don't have TV, etc....but I will begin praying immediately. (I will also be praying for the recipients of the prayer bands!) I would suspect that I will receive these bands in the next week or and I will ship them promptly after receipt. I'm looking forward to this great out-reach project and look forward to hearing from YOU!
I believe in the power of prayer and the GOODNESS and FAITHFULNESS of God! GET READY TO PRAY!

God is so good.... (not just a song title!)

"God is so good, God is so good,
God is so good, He's so good to me"

I am sitting in a outdoor cafe, waiting for my dinner and looking at a lovely lake in the Sebago Lake region of Maine, complete with a one of those cool sea planes that give rides to anyone who wants to pay the price! Since my arrival in Maine, I have risen each day with an acute sense of how very blest I am and how very much I am loved by my Creator, God.

Life, for me, has not always been happy and easy, but since I have placed my faith in Him, in the early 1980's, no matter what the circumstances I have ALWAYS known and trusted in His love and faithfulness. When I could see no "light at the end of the tunnel", He was there. When my heart was bruised and broken, He was there. When I truly did not know where my next dollar would come from or how I would survive, God was there! Many times, I had NO CLUE or NO EVIDENCE of His Presence, but that was not reason to doubt. I trusted in spite of what I saw....that is FAITH. You can believe the scripture written by James (1:2-4) that says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Well, I'm definitely on my way! My dear friends, please know that even if you are in the middle of tough times, heart break or in a 'dark night of the soul", God is with you and has HIS PLAN laid out for you. Let Him be in control and yield to whatever He plans and purposes for your life.

Years ago, I would not have been able to dream of the scenario in which I find myself today... LOVING life and very blessed on July 15, 2008. :) Be encouraged that God knows and loves you!

His best to you all.

Illustrated Children's Bible...50 cents!

I was pleasantly surprised as I browsed the 'used book sale' at the local library yesterday. A few days ago, I had purchased some books for myself but yesterday, I found the children's section of used books! I picked up a few books that I thought the kids would like, then came across a children's book of Bible stories.

A few months ago, "Monkey", my 4 year-old charge asked for a new 'Bible'. She loves to take her own little book of Bible stories to bed with her at nap time, and this is what she calls her 'Bible'. She looks at the pictures and (I hope) remembers the stories that we've read from this book. Monkey received this book last September but has quickly 'outgrown' this child's version of Bible stories. This spring Monkey asked me if I would get her a new 'Bible', then expounded and said she'd like to, "have a Bible, like yours". How sweet is that from a 4 year-old? Now, I know that Monkey can't read yet but I understood that what she wanted was a more 'grown up' version of scripture and Bible stories. The pictures and stories in the current book are VERY simplified and designed for toddlers or very young children. Monkey is ready for more! Praise God!

The purchase of a child's Bible has been on my 'to do' list for some time. I've looked around various book stores but hadn't made the purchase yet. Good thing.....cause yesterday I found a wonderful book of Bible stories designed for children....for 50 cents! How great is that? The new book that I will give Monkey tomorrow is designed for children but contains illustrations and wording that will need greater explanation and elaboration. That's a GOOD thing, because it will give us the opportunity to share and discuss the Bible stories contained in "The Golden Children's Bible". This new Bible contains a very large number of Bible stories; it begins with the Creation and runs through the Revelation. I am sure Monkey will love this new Bible!

Once again...a testimony of how graciously God provides for our every need! I pray that this book will provide a deep and rich foundation for all three of my charges as we read and discuss the stories therein.

Wooded Path I Walked This Morning...

Hi there....
Not sure how many of you know that I enjoy viewing and collecting photos of PATHS. Seems odd perhaps, but it was a vision of a long country path that the Holy Spirit used to teach me a very profound truth about my walk with Christ.

Since January 4, 2000, I have viewed, clipped, saved, and even purchased a variety of pictures of many different types of paths. It may be, not just a path, but a road, country lane or even a super highway that will remind me of my walk with God. At any given time, I am known to have small photos pasted or taped in areas around my house for the very purpose of reminding me of God's Truth. Any season, any location...but most often it is a photo of a path that appears deserted, quiet and peaceful that reflects my walk with God.

I write today not so much to share or teach the Truth that the Holy Spirit taught me, but to share the photo that I took today! I am excited today because I AM NOT a photographer...I'm barely able to be qualified as an 'ameteur' photographer! But today I took a photo that I like and one that I am sure will be another reminder, TO ME, of "Walking God's Way". I will share it with you!

Again....the photo is a personal reminder to me about how "narrow the path that leads to life". In the Gospel of Matthew (7:14) Jesus spoke, "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it". The Holy Spirit clearly taught me over eight years ago that, as I am "Walking God's Way", I must stay BEHIND my Lord. It is God who goes before me, clearing the way and making the path straight. (Do you know Proverbs 3:5-6?) I simply need to stay in His footsteps and all will be well.....no matter what occurs around me! How easy it is to run ahead or even think we can walk beside our Lord....but I may not. It is HE who goes before me and I am happy to follow Him. Recorded in the book of Deuteronomy (31:6) Moses told the nation of Israel to (in the New Living Translation) "Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid of them! The Lord your God will go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you." Wow....that verse inspires me over and over and speaks volumes of peace to me!

May you all be encouraged today as you consider your walk with Christ. Enjoy this photo and be blest!

God is SO BIG and our world SO SMALL!

Following is another example of what a very small world we live in and how GOD is truly orchestrating it all....as we are "Walking God's Way"

Remember my blog post a few days ago.....about my strange and unexpected 'reunion' (in Maine) with a former acquaintance, Kristina, who I had known many years ago in my VERY small hometown in Pennsylvania? I called it a VERY 'chance' meeting, yet, I learned it was quite orchestrated by the Lord! God knew that this friend I was to meet at "Panera Bread" (last week) had some very specific needs on the very day I met her here in Maine. (last meeting was well over 10 years ago!) It was quite exciting to meditate later about how God perfectly orchestrated that meeting!

Today I had another strange meeting. Today's encounter occured when I visited a local, 'open air' worship service. Allow me to preface today's meeting with some details of an occurance earlier this week, on July 3, 2008.

It was the day before a major holiday, July 4th, and my employer family was having a small gathering for an outdoor dinner that evening. Because "dad" had arrived for an extended visit earlier that day, I was freed from my regular duties of caring for the children. My employer asked if I would do some food shopping at a food mart in a nearby town and I happily agreed. Upon arriving at the food mart, I quickly surmized, by the overflowing parking lot, that EVERYBODY and THEIR BROTHER had the same agenda as I had! I entered the grocery store and began my simple task to purchase some hamburger, a bottle of dish liquid and mini carrots. Quick task....in and out...right? Ha! Little did I know I would be in a maze of shopping carts, watermelons, fireworks and grocery displays and PEOPLE for nearly 2 hours!

As this was my first visit to this particular grocery store, I was quite amazed at the very small aisles and cramped conditions in the store. One could not even pass another shopping cart in the aisle! It appeared that an addition had been recently built on to the original store, but the 'traffic flow' and crowded conditions certainly didn't indicate that there was additional floor space!

After I selected the items I needed, I wound through the many shopping carts and people to look for the check-out stations. Barely noticable, at what I THINK was the front of the store, was a more concentrated mass of people and carts. There seemed to be some order (sort of a line) to this mass of carts so I assumed the check-out cashiers were somewhere in the distance. I inched into a spot that I thought was the end of the line, only to meet up with another cart and woman who aparently had her eye on the same spot! We amicably agreed that because I had so few items, I would go first and she would fall in line behind me. She was very plesant, as was I, and we began to chat about the lines, traffic flow and then holiday plans. We shared our purposes in Maine (I could tell by her accent that she was from Boston) and we exchanged a few anecdotes of our summer vacation in beautiful Maine. She was interested in my profession as a nanny and jokingly added that she might have to call me if her grandchildren 'get out of hand' this weekend! Her daughter was also shopping with her and they joked about the 70 year-old patriarch of the family being the one who was most in need of "Super Nanny"! To me, it sounded like the family was one who enjoyed each other's company and who knew how to celebrated life! (In contrast to the parents and small children who were standing IN FRONT of me in line, who checked out with 2 six-packs of beer and a watermelon and shared with others in the store their plans to 'spike' (with vodka) the watermelon dad was carrying!) I left the market after this 'chance' meeting and lovely conversation, almost feeling like I had made new friends in Maine! What a blessing it is, if even briefly, to get to know people, especially when spending time in an area where one has so few acquaintances or relationships.

Now...for the interesting (chance??) meeting I had TODAY...

Until about 10 a.m. this morning, I hadn't decided which worship service I would attend; the 'open air' service at a nearby scenic overlook (that I attended last week) or the worship service at the little CMA church (that I attended last summer and once already this summer). I knew I needed to get to work by noon today and that the 'open air' service lasted until nearly 12:30 the previous week, yet, there was a 'tug' in me to go back to the service at the scenic overlook. Last week's service was more like a Bible study session but was nonetheless profitable and good. During the session last Sunday, a woman (one of four people who attended) asked some questions about the Holy Spirit's role in the Old Testament times. When I remembered, that during this past week, I had compiled some information for this women which answered her questions, I quickly printed out the material and made my decision to attend the informal, open air service this week.

I arrived a few minutes early, and upon my arrival I noticed that a family was setting up a picnic across the path from where the worship service was held. I then looked around and noticed the coffee urns (sorry....that WAS my first observation!) and then noticed Don, the gentleman who led last week's study, seated at a picnic table chatting with two women seated nearby in chairs. I approached the gentleman and we greeted each other and then I made a greeting to the two women. What a surprise I had when I realized that the two women who I was meeting were, indeed, the very same women I had met earlier in the week at the very crowded grocery store!

Now imagine....there were about EIGHT people in this vast and expansive, scenic overlook area and TWO of the eight people were women who I, a Connecticut Nanny, had already met in Maine! I DO NOT believe in coincidence; the meeting this morning was just too odd to be a haphazard or coincedental occurance. God truly has His hand in every occurance! I'm honestly not sure WHAT the purpose was in this meeting this morning (or the meeting at the grocery store earlier this week), but I DO KNOW that it was of God, and it was a blessing! Maybe the lesson is: To not take for granted any seemingly "chance" meeting as it may proove to be another part of God's intricate, amazing plan for your (or someone elses) life!

**I want to add that the worship service this morning at the overlook was very good. It was a lovely time of prayer, worship (with music and singing), a message and discussion. I was disappointed that I had to leave early to be at work, but I will go back again next week! The couples who were setting up the picnic lunch...turned out to be 'regulars' who attend the service every week! What a treat it is to meet and share with brothers and sisters in CHRIST!

God is good.....all the time and everywhere! Even in the line at the grocery store! :)

UPDATE to yesterday's video post....

I need to add to a statement that I wrote in yesterday's post in regards to the amazing video that I referenced. In the last paragraph of the post I wrote, "THIS video captures the essence of how my spirit soars when I worship God!" This morning the Holy Spirit urged me to make the following additional note:

What I need to clarify is that in NO WAY did I intend, by my statement (above), to correlate my worship of Christ to the dancing by the main character of this video, but what I connectecd with, while watching this video, was the spirit of the children who were filmed.

To me, the children in many of the shots of the video, displayed a pure and abandoned JOY in their dancing! I would venture to guess that, perhaps in some of the situations of their dancing, the children may not have even spoken enough English to fully comprehend what the intent of the videography was, but simply joined in a group of others who, in unrestrained freedom, were freely dancing and having fun! Now, I haven't had the opportunity to research the background of this video throughly, but I assume that the main character of the video, a man who traveled the world and danced at every location he visited, was simply dancing for the sake of 'performance' and entertainment. (which was, by the world's standards, a very interesting presentation in itself). To entertain or to worship for 'performance sake' is NOT what I encourage or experience, nor is that my purpose when I worship the Lord. In contrast, while watching the video, I clearly sensed that the children who were filmed were, with purity and innocence, simply dancing for sheer delight and joy! It is with the this same innocence, abandonment and freedom that I love to dance, move and express myself as I worship Jesus!

While I am not always in a church family that celebrates and worships Jesus in the freedom and abandonment, as I prefer, nonetheless, if my heart is right and I am prepared and 'fit' for worship, my spirit communes with Jesus and worship is sweet. On many occasions, I enter into worship in my own home, dancing and praising God in ways that many would term, well...."pretty weird"!

I relate my worship experiences and preferences with you as encouragement to every reader. I urge you, when you worship, and you sense the Holy Spirit rising within you, to allow the Him to express, through you, free and abandoned worship our Lord, Jesus. I have found such great joy and blessing when worshipping Jesus, "in spirit and in truth". May you each experience the Lord's deepest blessings as you worship Him....EVERY DAY....ANYWAY

AWESOME VIDEO to stir your soul!

Hi friends...

This may seem a strange link to refer to in a post that speaks about JESUS and His love and ways....but when I viewed this video clip, I absolutely was filled with JOY and stuck by the simiplicity and thrill of LIFE!

Of course, without being a Christian and knowing Christ, I'm not sure I'd look at this video with the same purity, hope and joy that I found when viewing this. Please take a minute (or a few) and view this AWESOME video. I haven't dug into the source, but certainly will, and I LOVE the music and will check that reference out also.

I hope your spirit rejoices as mine did when I viewed this! How AWESOME to be filled with the Spirit of God that allows us to see life with JOY and experience the THRILL of "Walking God's Way"! THIS video captures the essence of how my spirit soars when I worship God!
