OUR MIGHTY GOD!

A vivid image came to my mind this morning as I read scripture and meditated. I remembered a scene from years ago, of my pastor’s wife seated in a circle on the floor of a Sunday School classroom. She was leading the children in singing, “My God is so big, my God is so mighty, there’s nothing that God cannot do…” Do you know that song?

It’s a great song for children because included with the lyrics are motions that include raising your arms and ‘making a muscle’…which the kids always love to do!

I remember thinking at that time how wonderful it was to be planting this song with lyrics of God’s power and might into the receptive minds of these children. I wondered also how many and how often in the future these children would draw on the words of this great classic Sunday School song. I, personally, have sung this song many times since, and even recently to my young charges! My little 3 year old (boy) charge, especially, loves to ‘make a muscle’ at the appropriate time in the song!

(This is a photo of children in the Bahamas singing, "Our God is so Big"!)

Today I read a scripture in 2 Chronicles that brought this memory to my mind.
2 Chronicles 14:11-12 recounts the story of Asa, a Godly king of Judah, facing the prospect of battle with the greatly overpowering forces of the Ethiopian nation. The scripture reads,

“And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said, “Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!” So the Lord struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.”

What a powerful scripture! We are fortunate that God's Word is available to us to read, absorb and memorize!

Similar to today’s scripture are verses I memorized (in NIV) a few years ago from 2 Kings 6:15-17

“When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked. "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." And Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes so he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha."

Wow….this scripture still speaks to me of God’s great POWER and MIGHT!

I challenge you today to commit to memory some scripture or even a children's song that will help you to always remember God’s amazing power and might, then share it with others as needed!
