Today I researched the words to this song, just to make sure I had the lyrics correct, and I was surprised to find FIVE verses to the familiar song. As I read the lyrics, I sensed great comfort in these words. However, imagining that I did not know or trust Christ for my future....I believe I would find these words empty and even a bit 'haunting' to my soul. Taps is a familiar musical piece that is sounded by the US military to indicate "lights out" and also during flag ceremonies and funerals. If you have ever attended a military funeral or service, I am sure you have found this song, as it is traditionally played on the bugle or trumpet, to invoke a deep well of emotions.
I am trusting that YOU have the peace that comes through knowing Jesus Christ for your salvation and redemption!
May His Peace be with each of you.....
Taps
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.
Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.
While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.
